Right, so I have been away from LJ since August (holy crap D8) but I now return to ask a small but sweet favour that would really mean a lot to me...
Long story short: all you need to do is comment on this entry with the words "Signed". THAT SIMPLE.
Short story long...
Hetalia is a web-manga which personifies the nations of the world as individual characters which in turn portray historical events in a crazy (and frequently hilarious) sitcom kind of way. Now, I'm sure those of you familiar with Japan's history may see how this could offend some countries (Japan, WWII, etc.), but Hetalia is a series which 1) heckles every country equally, and 2) is really not meant to be taken seriously. Seriously. Having said that, there are some people in Korea who have gotten the wrong idea - mainly due to some bizarre misinformation in the form of altered images and fanart. You may disagree, but I find that a little inappropriate to start a petition to get the series banned over. Not only that, but it was also mentioned on Korean news, and even brought up at a government conference. The anime adaptation was due to come out last Monday, but a petition of over 16,000 names against it meant it was cancelled (the creators citing "various reasons"). Luckily it is seeing a web-broadcast, but now rumour of a new petition have sprung up - this time trying to get the original comic itself outright banned and removed from the internet.
I am not 100% certain on whether or not this rumour is true (I wouldn't be surprised though, to be honest), but in light of this, the LJ Hetalia community have started their own counter-petition to persuade the creator and all those involved with the series that they should disregard any and all further efforts to spoil the series. AND THAT IS WHERE YOU GUYS COME IN 8D;
If you would like more information, please read the background on the petition.
...But if you could see your way to signing it (and bare in mind all you would need to do is comment with the word "signed", "signing", "*signed*", etc.), I would truly appreciate it :3

...Seems like I'm getting close to monthly updates here 8D;;; To summarise:
* Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday and sorry for not replying to you sooner! * I am still working at the same place. I have my 6 month PDI coming up though, where I will need to give evidence that I've met the targets they set me at my 3 month one (which I have - except for the deciding on my career goals thing). As my sister's friend did say, surely it's none of their business whether I enjoy the job or not - as long as I'm actually doing it, right? And as they said at my last one, I am a good do-er. * Of the five people in my office when I started, two have left over the past couple of months. * I have bought many plants for our office, and taking care of them is what keeps me sane. I say taking care, but something seems to be eating them DX * I went to the folk festival Spanfest last weekend (named after headliners Steeleye Span) at Stanford Hall which was LOVELY. The weather was fantastic, the surroundings were pretty, and the bands were awesome (finally got to hear The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain which many of my friends have been praising and I can now whole heartedly agree with them!) * Amecon is coming up - next friday in fact! Just a little left to do on my cosplay now :D I may have also gone overboard on the prints after they did so well last year... * I've started playing Mass Effect - so far I can say I love the RPing parts since, for once in an RPG, they actually feel like you're RPing! The combat, however... too Halo for me (not first person, but still too shooty). Anyhoo, I'm happily working my way through the most condemned games of the past few years 8D Done GTA, Bully, Manhunt... Now excuse me whilst I go and kill some random people in the streets. * SAT NAV BEES!!! I TOLD YOU SO, GODDAMMIT. Anyone who speaks to me on MSN on a regular basis (or rather, speaks to me when I'm playing Tarwith on MSN on a regular basis) will know how much of a big deal this one is XD I told you, I told you all! * A couple of arts: OC Character Meme R-MIX:- Because I love these things muchly! A meme where my long suffering original characters get thrown into a visual version of those random numbering / situational memes with crazy results. As usual.
Sell out slash LFHC - July:- Because I needed to make something which looked half decent to put up at Ame 8D;
And now... SHOWER!Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: Some kind of Enka!?

Again, addressing the Sheffield folks: anyone up for celebrating my birthday this Wednesday? If there's enough people willing, I'll book a restaurant now (probably East Ocean on the Moor), but if there aren't so many I was thinking take out and some films...
Let me know if you can make it!
Now please and excuse me whilst I go and collapse...Current Mood: exanimate Current Music: Queen:- The Invisible Man

I'M BACK...
So, I went to the dentist. The appointment only lasted 5 minutes and basically involved them saying "...you're fine, but your wisdom teeth look like they might start to cause some trouble. Come back in 6 months". At which point I went "wait, what? Aren't these *points at black marks* cavities?" and was told yes and no - that they were surface cavities which don't require fillings, but I should probably keep an eye on them just to be safe.
HUH? D8
On the plus side, I did get myself horribly worked up, thinking I was going to need a lot of fillings (and oh god the injections in the mouth again), so what a relief that was :D;
Also Loki is now becoming HUGE and is, in fact, the prettiest kitty IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE. No cat could possibly be prettier than he! I'm half afraid he might get stolen DX
Anyway, lets get to business...

( Films )
( Anime )
( Games )
Anyway, moving on - I am sharing this in honour of the HD remix of Street Fighter II demo which came out last week and looks HOT DAMN.
-10 points for mispronouncing Ryu, +1000000 for being AWESOME.

Since university has more or less finished for the next few months (i.e: no anime society), I have a little more spare time in the evenings, so I've bought myself a couple of games in the hopes of getting back to the gaming grind WOO.
I am, in fact, rather pleased with these two happy purchases, so lets take a look at what we have...
Bully, aka: Canis Canem Edit. Also known as one of the most controversial games of recent times after Manhunt and GTA. Well, obviously. Because the game is about bullying, right? And mindless violence? GOOD GOD, THINK OF THE CHILDREN. Only it isn't really (as could be expected). I will concede it is pretty much Grand Theft Auto set in a school, but there's a little more too it than that. You play Jimmy, an unhappy youth who has just been dumped at Bullsworth Academy whilst his less than sympathetic mother and ageing stepfather go off on their honeymoon. For a year. From there you basically get a grilling from the headmaster to KEEP YOUR NOSE CLEAN, a bit of trouble from the campus thugs and an introduction to Gary the ADD megalomaniacal sociopath (who is AWESOME) and poor weedie Pete - thus your time at Bullsworth begins. Not the friendliest of schools, really. There are a number of different factions on campus (it's a school, after all) - the bullies (thugs), the preppies (rich kids), the greasers (GREASE LIGHTNING), the jocks (muscle brains), and of course the NERRRRRDS. And it's your job to fit in, be it by kicking their asses, paying them to leave you alone, or by completing errands and missions to advance the plot (which inevitably affects the kind of relationships you have with them).
So, yeah, you can be a bully. Yeah, you can vandalise stuff, and yeah you can break into lockers and steal stuff. You have a trouble meter, and there are (over zealous) prefects patrolling the halls to make sure everyone is in line. You get caught, you get punished. You don't... well, you get away with it. (just like in real life!) But the fact is, as soon as you start hitting kids smaller than you (because there are younger kids on campus) or any of the girls, your trouble meter will go straight to red, and you'll get busted in an instant if you get caught (which you almost certainly will be, since every single prefect will head straight for you).
...I am enjoying this game immensely. The voice acting is good, and the dialogue is absolutely hilarious at times (especially the faux-British Preppies). Gameplay is also enjoyable for the most part. Sure, fighting plays a large part, but you also have stealth bits, social bits, thinky bits, etc. The whole thing is, rather than sinister and evil, incredibly juvenile and hugely enjoyable for it. Having said that, I'd say the humour is a bit sharp witted for anyone over the age of 16 to actually appreciate, but the game really isn't meant for anyone under the age of 16 anyway.
And GOOD LORD the music is freaking awesome! Danny Elfman comes straight to mind, especially when you're riding the bike.
It's also funny how the people who lynched the game forgot to mention the class sections of the game. Okay, so you can choose to play truant (and risk getting tackled by the beefy prefects who act like cops from a 70s TV show, and are accompanied by funk music when they chase you), but classes are SUPER FUN 8D There's art, English, shop, PE ('gym'), chemistry and photography. Passing each one successfully levels up some aspect of your prank power, social skills, and the like. In the case of English classes, I genuinely found myself challenged. Word scramble, timer, find as many words as you can. I'd say art (of all things) is the hardest class, but amusing as it levels up your romance power XD Yes, the dating aspect is silly, but amusing and occasionally cringe worthy. You can court the young ladies of the campus (and some of the young men - controversy SHOCK) and kisses restore your health when you don't feel like forking out $1 for pop.
Wait, FIZZY DRINKS GIVE YOU HEALTH BACK! CONTROVERSY.
So yes. FUN. I might go and play some more in a bit 8D
Odin's Sphere. So very... very pretty. 2D prettiness (sprites, but everything looks like a painted story book) meets side scrolling action 8D It had to be done! However, the fact I am playing Bully so much means I have yet to really get on with this one. So far I can say two things - PRETTY and ORIGINAL. It's about time someone made a new side scrolling beat 'em up (Golden Axe... Streets of Rage... ah those were the days~), but I never expected SquareEnix to poke it back to life. Gameplay has proved a little tricky at times, but it's almost a totally new system (YOU USE SOULS TO GROW HEALTH FRUIT), so that's to be expected. Story wise... well, the whole thing is about a little girl reading a storybook, so it's epic fantasy. At the moment the plot focuses on a young Valkeryie princess (Square seriously needs to lay off the Norse for a while) trying to win her father (Odin)'s love on the battlefield as a war rages against the fairy kingdom. Apparently it will switch between characters at some points and the story paths with converge and so on...
Anyhoo, I would like to draw more Dante, but...

Right. I am sure everyone here knows how I feel about (most) modern fansubs by now, (i.e: that they suck and need to LEARN TO TRANSLATE, SERIOUSLY, because lets face it - translation is the whole point, right?) and that I did my university dissertation on translation practice specifically applied to official and fan subtitles of anime (ahh good times~)...
Well for the past few months, my housemate has been working on something really rather awesome. Take that dissertation I did, add his scathing tone and annoyingly professional editing abilities, and you get...
*drum-roll*
( THE RISE AND FALL OF ANIME FANSUBTITLES (A rant / documentary by MightyOtaking) )
You know it makes sense unlike most fansubs.
And whilst I'm here, I might as well leave some kind of arts:
